Organic Westcountry Haggis from the Well Hung Meat Co

16th January 2007

South Devon based online Organic Meat business, The Well Hung Meat Co are delighted to launch their organic Westcountry Haggis ready for Burn’s Night on the 25th of January. Hand-made using the finest organic ingredients, they believe it is the first of its’ kind in the Westcountry.

The staff at Well Hung Meat have had great fun trialling and testing different haggis recipes. “We started off with haggis burgers which were interesting, we then played around with pepper and herbs and various other ingredients to get the balance just right and the whole team have given the latest version a resounding thumbs-up.”

The ‘nose to tail’ approach to eating meat, as popularised by many chefs and food writers, embraces the haggis as a fantastic way of preparing some of the less attractive cuts. The Well Hung Haggis is prepared using offal from locally sourced organic lambs. Managing Director Graeme Roy adds, “one of the great things about haggis is that it is such great value, in times gone by nothing was ever wasted and it’s really satisfying to be able to use as much of the animal as possible. Admittedly it’s not a dish that people would eat every week, at least not outside of Scotland, but it is very traditional and is delicious served with all the trimmings and a good slug of malt whisky!”

The Well Hung Meat Co has secured it’s reputation with locally sourced, organic beef lamb, pork and poultry but the company are always open to trying new ideas, “It’s fun to try something a bit different,” says Graeme, “and it has definitely been a learning process getting the haggis just right. The Scots have passed their secret recipes down through the generations and are experts in the art of haggis making. At Well Hung Meat, we just wanted to try and perfect an organic Westcountry haggis, made from locally sourced lamb and hand-prepared. We encourage people to invite their friends, get a copy of Robert Burns’ address to a haggis and soak up the spirit of Burn’s Night with their organic haggis at centre-stage.”
