Organic Barbeque Boxes from The Well Hung Meat Co

The BBQ boxes are really popular with customers who want something a little bit special on their barbeque. The approach is simple, Well Hung Meat offer 3 different sizes of box each containing a selection of delicious organic cuts that are best suited to the BBQ. The company are renowned for their fantastic Well Hung Burger which is made from pedigree South Devon beef that has been hung for 3 weeks. They don’t add any nasties to their burgers, using just a little onion and black pepper with their prime steak mince. As well as the beef burger, they also offer a juicy lamb and rosemary burger which offers something a little different.

Graeme Roy, Managing Director of Well Hung Meat, explains a bit more about the boxes, “it is around this time each year that barbeque fever begins. The fantastic spell of weather across the country over Easter will have seen many barbeques being dusted off and fired-up for the first time. Our barbeque boxes contain the very best, award-winning organic meat in a number of cuts that are great for the barbeque. By offering 3 different sizes of box, from the basic to the deluxe, there really is something to suit every occasion.”

The staff at Well Hung Meat are huge fans of the barbeque, “last Summer we had a staff barbeque at Carswell Farm,” says Graeme, “the BBQ was a massive drum and we cooked up all the usual burgers, sausages etc but the pièce de résistance was a rib of beef, a leg of lamb and a whole turkey, it was quite spectacular!”

The secret to a good barbeque as Graeme explains, is not to rush, the best BBQs take all day. If you wait for the coals to reach temperature and the flames to die down the results will be fantastic.

Each year the contents of the BBQ boxes are carefully chosen by the Well Hung Meat staff and, this year, they have got their customers involved as well in helping them to select the sausage varieties for the boxes. Graeme explains, “we are trialing 4 new types of sausage at the moment and rather than just having a big cook-up for lunch, we thought we would send a taster pack to each of our monthly customers and let them decide which are the best, this way we know that our customers are getting what they want in their boxes.”

Well Hung Meat source all of their meat from small, local farms in South Devon and Cornwall. “During the summer we get a huge influx of visitors to Devon and Cornwall” says Graeme, “most of them drive right past our door on the A38 near Buckfastleigh. We offer people the opportunity to taste some fantastic local produce whilst staying in the local area. We have a small butchery where people can pop in and pick up some bits and bobs and we can also deliver to holiday cottages across the country. It’s not just the BBQ boxes that we offer, there is a full range of cuts available but the BBQ boxes are a definite winner for holiday makers who can enjoy fantastic local produce whilst soaking up the Devon air!”
